Frequently Asked Questions

Is Looks Like Me a non-profit organization?
Yes. Looks Like Me is a registered 501(c)3 organization. Our Federal Tax ID number is: 33-0920803.

Will my donation be used in San Diego?
Looks Like Me is based in San Diego. All donations made to the organization are used exclusively to benefit children in San Diego and the surrounding communities.

Are the families responsible for the cost of the hair replacement system?
No. The family receives the hair piece at no cost. A hair piece of this quality would normally cost between $1,500 - $2,000.

Will my hair be used in a hair system for a child?
Yes. All hair donated to Looks Like Me is separated according to length, color and texture. It is then kept to be used when a child is referred to the Looks Like Me program.

How does my hair donation become a hair piece?
We begin with a mold of the child's head. Specialists hand tie each strand to a firm nylon base to meet the individual child's requests. A hair cut is then given to the child's desired hairstyle.

Can I meet the child that receives my hair?
Hair loss is a sensitive issue to many. We pride ourselves on confidentiality and sensitivity to each individual's hair loss issues. We do offer a sponsorship program that pairs a hair recipient with a sponsor who is responsible for the total cost of the individual child's hairpiece. Meetings between a sponsor and a child are considered on a case by case basis and are made soley at the discretion of the child and their family. If you are interested in the sponsorship program, please call us at (760) 458-3070.

Where do I get my hair cut so that I may donate it to Looks Like Me?
Your favorite local hair salon or stylist can cut your hair as long as the guidelines listed on the Donate Your Hair page are followed.

How can I assist this program?
Looks Like Me relies soley on financial donations to keep the program available for the children in San Diego. Volunteers are always welcomed. If you would like to get involved in fundraising, please call (760) 458-3070.

How is my financial donation used?
For example, a donation of $1,500 would allow us to mold, tie and style a hair piece. It also covers all administrative costs associated with providing a hair piece to a child.
